Tall Ships Visit

ANNUAL VISIT SCHEDULED TO NEWPORT FOR PAIR OF TALL SHIPS
Newport, Ore. - The annual visit to Yaquina Bay by the tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain is scheduled for May 18-31. The ships will tie up at the Port of Newport, 600 Bay Boulevard, Newport, and welcome visitors for walk-on tours and sailing excursions. Local school groups will also participate in one-hour and three-hour educational programs on maritime history and culture. Both ships are U.S. Coast Guard-inspected passenger vessels. Here’s the public schedule for the ships.
5/19-20: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., walk-on tours, $3 donation per person requested.
5/20: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Evening Sail, $45.
5/21-22: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., walk-on tours, $3 donation per person requested.
5/21: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Battle Sail, $38-$75.
5/22: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Adventure Sail, $39-$47.
5/22: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Adventure Sail, $39-$47.
5/24-27: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., walk-on tours, $3 donation per person requested.
5/25: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Evening Sail, $35.
5/27: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Evening Sail, $45.
5/28-30: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., walk-on tours, $3 donation per person requested.
5/28: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Adventure Sail, $39-$47.
5/29: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Adventure Sail, $39-$47.
5/29-30: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Battle Sail, $39-$75.
Battle Sails are recreations of a typical 18th-century naval skirmish, complete with real cannon, real gunpowder, but no cannon balls. Tickets are $75 adults, $67 students/seniors/active military, $39 children 12/under. Adventure Sails feature opportunities for guests to help raise a sail, learn a sea shanty, or take the helm of a real tall ship, conditions permitting. Tickets are $47 adults, $39 children 12/under. Evening Sails are similar to Adventure Sails, but value-priced at $35 on Wednesdays, $45 on Fridays.
New for 2016 is a 15 percent discount for online purchases of four or more Battle Sail or Adventure Sail tickets. For example, guests can save $45 on the purchase of four adult Battle Sail tickets. The wooden-hulled Lady Washington has appeared in several movies and TV shows, including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and Star Trek: Generations. The steel-hulled Hawaiian Chieftain specializes in hands-on educational programs for young people.
